In this project, I designed a set of dishes for the 'King Solomon' Hotel in Jerusalem. The set contains two types of kettles with two matching cups and a tray.
The architecture of the building was dominant and strong in my eyes, and reminded me of cubist art. Inside the hotel there are art pieces made by artists such as Yakov Meltz, Ester Shnaider and Meidad Eiyahu. Those made the inside space an inspiration for me in addition to the hotel’s architecture.
Since the hotel is located in Jerusalem, I wanted to refer to the city in my work as well. After living in the city for three years by then, I had many different feelings to it. The city of Jerusalem confronted me with all kinds of questions about identity and gender, freedom and boundaries, alienation and belonging, and more.
All of these led me to work in the technique of cutting and reassembling. A technique that allowed me to create a new, complex and unique shape that examines and talks about th e boundaries of balance versus imbalance.
